Questing Knight Jeanne Romée spotlight

My favorite story about Jeanne is that she has never killed anyone. That statement leaves a

lot of wiggle room, but in truth, Jeanne’s story needs no qualifiers. All that matters is that she succeeds in her missions, whether her enemies die or not. In this, Jeanne Romée has never failed.

This release is an exciting one for us. This is the first model that Ignition Core Games has re-sculpted from the old Relic Knights line. We worked with both original Relic Knights sculptors and a key member of the art team to maintain the authentic art style of Relic Knights, and bring a dated mini up to the standard of quality and detail of Relic Knights 2.0. Here she is!

Questing Knight Jeanne Romée and her fierce cypher, Gallant have been carefully re-imagined to return to your tabletop this May. This set is a great addition to your Shattered Sword cadre and a great centerpiece for painters too. Now that we've had a chance to see her new sculpt, let's see how she plays on the table.

The first things to note about Questing Knight Jeanne Romée is that she has no attacks. Her active skill values for melee and shooting are both zero. Jeanne can force movement against an enemy unit (great for clearing enemies off an objective, either to defend it, or claim it with another unit) and even potentially bind them (which buffs several attack actions throughout the Shattered Sword faction lineup). This can also potentially cause a bit of damage if she throws her enemies into battlefield objects, but other than that, Jeanne works primarily through other units in her cadre.

Call to Arms in particular can be very effective, either for moving a friendly unit into range of an enemy objective, and then finishing it off, only for that same unit to then activate and score the objective, or for pushing an already-activated unit to keep fighting when it otherwise would be limited to just surge actions.

Another unique feature of Jeanne Romée is her 'Martyr' ability. If she falls in battle for any reason, the entire rest of the Cadre gets a buff to both offense and defense that will last for the remainder of the game. Not only is this thematic. It could allow for moves and plays you might not otherwise make with a Questing Knight. Would you still protect or hide Jeanne Romee like you might with another Questing Knight? Or would this ability cause you to make more daring plays with her like putting her on a key objective and daring your opponent to strike her down?

That's not all. Like any Knight, Questing Knight Jeanne Romée strides into battle with her bonded cypher.

Jeanne's cypher, Gallant offers similar buffs to both offense and defense. Just by being within 3" of a friendly unit, that unit gains an additional point of armor. With a combined total of 11" of movement Gallant can cover a lot of ground to shore up your defensive lines. And if that's not enough, his PRIDE ability will take him directly to an engaged friendly unit. Then, if you can afford to press the ability, that unit gets to immediately make a melee attack. Combine this ability with Questing Knight Jeanne Romée's Grave of the Martyr ability to stack damage and armor buffs and turn even modest Swordsworn into something far more formidable.

Questing Knight Jeanne Romée and Gallant are a great addition to the Shattered Sword Battle Box, and can even lead the Sundown Enforcers and Miss Kaylee (from the Radiant vs Void Two Player Starter) in battle against the forces of Void and their allies. Stay tuned for this product launch in just a couple of weeks by subscribing here.

So far, Relic Knights has been live for over a month now, but we have yet to see a 'Relic Knight' unit since the re-launch. Next update we will be amending that...
