Star Lancer Spotlight

The Order of the Shattered Sword constructed the first Aegis armor over a thousand cycles ago. The designers modeled these early suits on the ornate body armor worn by many righteous warriors across different worlds. Aegis armor served as both protection for the wearer and as symbols of the Order’s strength.  Laughably primitive today, yet those first suits were advanced weapons in their day, and the design has been refined, upgraded, and re-sculpted to stay current.

Sometimes training, preparation, and solid planning are not quite enough. Sometimes what you really need is a bigger gun; or two, in this case. The Star Lancer is an expanded version of the Paragon’s vaunted Aegis armor and fills the role of a heavy weapons platform in our forces...

Before we get into the game mechanics of the Star Lancer, I'd love to take a moment to appreciate how well the sculpt represents the art for this model.

This model is an intricate piece and will paint up very nicely.

On the game table the Star Lancer is a flying fire-support platform on par with a tactical nuke launcher. Let's take a minute to delve into that.

There's quite a bit to take in here, but we are going to focus on one particular ability. Orion Beam. For just two blue Esper the ability succeeds and kicks out a modest Damage 4. For a very reasonable one orange Esper that number goes up to Damage 6. Still not bad. For two orange Esper (here is where we start getting interesting) the attack gains Damage 1 for each model in the target unit the Star Lancer can see. This could turn into Damage 16 against a large enough unit. And lastly, the ability to pay two orange Esper to add Push 8 to the attack is huge. Need an enemy unit pushed off an objective so you can score it on the next activation? The Star Lancer's Orion Beam has you covered. And what is better than one Tactical Nuke you might ask?

A second Tactical Nuke delivered immediately after the first. Void cards typically just bog down your hand but not anymore. With the Advanced Esper Cycler you can turn those otherwise useless Void cards into more firepower. Smite your opponent from afar, then do it again and see the look in your opponent's eyes.

At just five points for the Star Lancer and one point for the upgrade, this model will bring your 38 point Shattered Sword Battle Box up to 44 points. Two of them will bring you up to a full 50 point Skirmish sized cadre. And you don't need to be a Shattered Sword player to field the Star Lancer either. This model is fully compatible with the Radiant half of the Relic Knights Radiant vs Void Two Player Starter Set.

We have two more units, and a neat accessory set to announce for Shattered Sword in the coming days, so subscribe here for updates (if you haven't already) and stay tuned. In our next update we will cover the first Relic Knights mini to get an updated sculpt by Ignition Core Games...
