Pythons Spotlight

You may have heard a lot about the shady, unorthodox, or outright illegal things that Black Diamond does, and we’re not done with that. But despite all this, we really are a legitimate security business. As such, we operate a lot of specialized equipment for a wide variety of missions. The Python battle armor teams are a good example. They’re trained for capture, exfiltration, and detention missions and equipped with specialized battle armor—also called Pythons, conveniently. They rescue hostages, extract diplomats or other important persons, and capture terrorist or criminals—all nice, legal, and good public relations. ‘Course, they can’t be heroes everyday, so we find other work for them on their off-days

Once your have your Black Diamond Battle Box in hand, what better way to round out your forces than this three-man team of troopers in Python Battle Armor. Not only are these bulky, imposing and impressive sculpts...

...but they come with a fun variety of disruptive abilities to throw off your opponent's plans while you develop your own. Let's take a closer look at some of those abilities.

With a movement of 6-6 these big hulking suits can make their way around the battlefield. Consider that they have 'Tow' in their innate abilities, and they can they can move enemy models around the board, potentially pulling a unit away from an objective to prevent scoring, or breaking a unit and forcing it to move back into coherency (which incidentally can also prevent a unit from scoring an objective).

Containment field is a great area denial AoE, threatening to put Hobble, and possibly Bind on any unit that activates or ends a move within 3" of the AoE marker. Figuring out where your opponent wants to go (like an easy route to an objective for example), and placing this AoE there will definitely make it painful for them to do so. That's just a couple of examples.

For just two points extra, this unit can take the 'Neutralizer' upgrade. Damage 4 (or damage 6 with Coordinated Attack1) may be a modest damage output, but the ability to press the shooting attack to inflict Bind will help turn off some particularly nasty Surge abilities (like Relic Knight Jeanne Romee's powerful 'Smiting Blow' attack).

You can run one, two or three Pythons, with or without the upgrade. So, whether you are trying to get your Black Diamond Battle Box up to 50 points, or you have a mostly full list, but want just one Python to add some complexity to your list, this set will let you field a unit for as little as 6 points (one Python, no upgrade) all the way up to 18 points (all three Pythons, plus the upgrade). You can also bring this unit to supplement the Void half of the Radiant vs Void Two Player Starter Set, giving the Void cadre their own heavily armored answer to Radiant's Sundown Enforcers.

Next update we will cover a fan favorite Black Diamond character, returning as a Questing Knight. Stay tuned...
